Engineers from the Laboratory of New Production Technologies at the SUAI Engineering School have developed an inclined tray sorter carousel designed for use in airport baggage systems.
The carriage of the inclined carousel of the luggage compartment tray sorter is used in the sorting systems of airports, logistics centers and warehouses. Several additive technologies were applied to it, as well as topological optimization methods to improve its technical characteristics. In addition, engineers added a bearing which reduces friction and increases the life of the unit, as well as a bracket for dissipating thermal energy. The model is characterized by reduced wear, lower weight, ease of maintenance and increased reliability.
— In the lower part of the housing of the inner side of the carriage there is a channel for the drive shaft, in the upper end of the housing there are holes for mounting the plate, and in the central part there is a hole for the mounting rod. The channel of the locking mechanism is located in the lower end of the carriage body. The bolted bearing in the bracket prevents wear of the polymer part, increasing the service life of the system. The elimination of friction between the housing and the mounting rod contributes to better heat dissipation and increased wear resistance,» said Sergey Babchinetsky, head of the Laboratory of New Production Technologies at SUAI.
Due to the improved characteristics, the development of the GUAP makes it possible to increase the life of the sorting system with a tray sorter and minimize maintenance and repair costs by replacing only the bearing, and not the entire carriage, unlike its foreign counterparts.
