19 сентября SUAI experts develop a unique color recognition device

A device developed in the SUAI Laboratory of Automatic Systems has it’s functionality similar to industrial devices. The object color meter does not just capture shades, it instantly transmits data to the industrial RS-485 network via the Modbus RTU protocol in real time.

Today, the speed of the packaging line, the accuracy of picking, and the stability of quality depend on the correct «reading» of color. The SUAI team has set itself an ambitious goal: to make a device with advanced functionality and simple configuration, which at the same time will be more affordable than its commercial counterparts.

— Devices and sensors of this kind are used in the food and textile industries, in printing and in medicine. Currently, our development is being used in laboratory and practical training within the Mechatronics and Robotics field of study. Students understand the architecture and circuitry of color sensors, set up network exchange between the device and the PLC, write programs that set recognition thresholds and sorting commands. The result of this work is real—world cases: manipulators together with an automated carousel—type warehouse arrange the parts into trays according to the specified color code and illumination parameters,» said Dmitry Kulikov, the project developer and head of the SUAI Laboratory of Automatic Systems.
