30 октября Artificial intelligence: a threat or a growth point?

The rector of SUAI, Yulia Antokhina, moderated a round table on the trends in the development of artificial intelligence in the educational field.

On October 30, within the framework of the St. Petersburg Congress on Vocational Education, Science and Innovation in the 21st Century, a round table on Artificial Intelligence Technologies: Prospects, Digital Solutions. The Best Practices and Experience in the Field of Education». The discussion was moderated by the SUAI rector, and representatives of leading higher educational institutions of St. Petersburg took part in the event.

The relevance of the issues raised by the expert community is obvious. Artificial intelligence technologies open up new opportunities for humanity, helping to perform tasks faster and more efficiently in a wide variety of fields of activity. However, the downside of this rapid progress is the inevitable question of man’s place in a rapidly changing world, the dilemma of the subjectivity of AI, based on its increasing role in people’s lives and the alarming prognosis shared by many about the imminent replacement of a number of specialists with machine «intelligence».

— Artificial intelligence technologies present many opportunities for the comprehensive development of society. It is an indispensable and multifunctional tool that allows us to actively improve the quality of people’s lives, develop education and science. At the same time, it must be remembered that the right to make strategic decisions and to choose a development concept in all areas belongs to a human being. The role of personality has been and remains fundamental, no matter what high technologies we have at our disposal,» concluded Yulia Antokhina.
